Data-driven learning (DDL) refers to a pedagogy which involves language learning through the use of corpora. The mainstream of its application has been for learners at the tertiary level, and it has not been widely used with young learners. Though the number of empirical studies at the primary level remains relatively small compared to those with tertiary learners, studies on the use of DDL with young learners and secondary students have started to emerge and identified its potential for contributing to young learners’ language learning, in terms of promoting their meta-linguistic awareness, enhancing their lexico-grammatical and phraseological awareness, as well as in improving their self-efficacy. For further implementation of DDL in young learners’ language education, research suggests the incorporation of corpus linguistics in teacher training and further developments of suitable corpora and tools and related methodologies considering the local and contextual needs of learners.
