Social media significantly expands the horizons of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) by extending beyond traditional classroom boundaries to foster a rich, interactive environment for language learning. Despite its potential, incorporating e-portfolios derived from social media into formal educational settings remains cautious and tentative due to various concerns. Thus, this chapter explores the novel use of social media as a platform for electronic portfolios (e-portfolios), which capture and showcase language learning progress. The chapter highlights the distinctive qualities, benefits, and important considerations necessary to optimize social media for e-portfolio use. It begins by examining how various social media platforms can serve as conducive spaces for e-portfolios and then presents a practical case study detailing the deployment of Facebook as an e-portfolio within a writing course. Finally, this paper presents the inherent challenges in adopting social media as an e-portfolio medium and proposes practical strategies to alleviate these issues and effectively integrate this Web 2.0 technology into language classrooms.
