Virtual Exchange and DGBLLT
摘要
This chapter explores the role of serious social games (SSGs) in enhancing virtual exchange (VE) encounters for linguacultural and intercultural learning. Emphasizing the integration of serious games, it draws on previous research conducted with university students and school learners who engaged in international social gaming using various platforms, including virtual reality (VR). The analysis delves into how SSGs, grounded in task-based language teaching principles, leverage game mechanics and social interaction features to facilitate immersive and collaborative learning experiences in virtual exchange settings. Additionally, the chapter discusses the benefits and potential obstacles associated with incorporating serious games within social apps and VR technology for VE initiatives. It concludes by providing recommendations for educators and researchers to effectively harness SSGs to enhance student engagement and motivation in VE projects.
