This chapter explores how to create effective prompts for both writing and speaking instruction in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. In writing classes, the burden of providing individualized feedback often challenges educators, prompting the exploration of tools like ChatGPT to supplement instruction. ChatGPT’s real-time, AI-driven responses—enabled by large language models—can reduce teacher workload and support student learning when guided by well-crafted prompts. Similarly, in speaking classes, structured prompts can help students improve oral presentation skills by eliciting targeted feedback on content and delivery. By positioning ChatGPT as a language assistant rather than a replacement for traditional methods, this chapter illustrates how prompt design can support personalized learning and foster digital literacy in AI-enhanced classrooms. Practical examples are provided for both writing and speaking tasks.
