摘要

The climate of the planet has changed drastically many times during the last billions of years, leading each time to radical changes in the functioning of the planet, but this is the first time ever that such changes are happening in an extremely short period of time. These changes are due to the emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) in the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels, animal husbandry, intensive agriculture, and over consumption of resources. Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon that has allowed life to develop on the planet as we know it today. However, a too high increase in greenhouse gas concentrations directly affects the global climate of the planet. The challenge humanity is facing now is to urgently find ways to stop the emissions and to capture and store as much as possible GHG already in the atmosphere, while still delivering the energy we need.
