摘要

Uruguay has increased the intensity and frequency of hot weather extremes, while cold weather extremes have become less frequent. Rainfall patterns have undergone notable shifts, especially during the warm season, with a strong positive trend in annual precipitation since the early twentieth century, leading to increased rainfall across the region. This positive trend is further highlighted by a significant increase in heavy rainfall events. This chapter develops three central themes for discussing climate change in Uruguayan viticulture: (1) climate change impacts in Uruguay, including general climate trends such as temperature and precipitation changes over time; (2) climate impact on Uruguayan vineyards, focusing on vulnerability, including specific impacts on vineyards’ vulnerability, the adaptive capacity of viticulturists and perceptions of climate change; and (3) adaptation strategies employed by viticulturists in Uruguay to mitigate the effects of climate change on their vineyards.
