Introduction
摘要
This chapter gives a short introduction into the main topics of this second volume of the textbook on semiconductor optics. Included is a definition of the terms non-linear optics and high-excitation effects. We point out some major technical developments that have led to the current status of semiconductor optics and spectroscopy. Ample examples are given how carrier dynamics, many-particle effects or confinement in nano-structures determine the performance of modern semiconductor devices. We will also define the fundamental aims and concepts of this book and outline its contents.
