摘要

Social work strives to advocate for social justice and uplift underserved populations by addressing their needs and countering the impacts of crises like COVID-19. This chapter delves into the intricate dynamics of social work, highlighting the challenges of practicing within rural communities. Despite their unique challenges stemming from underdevelopment and resource scarcity, rural areas often lack attention in this domain. The pandemic further emphasized these issues, underscoring the limitations of traditional service delivery during lockdowns. The absence of social work recognition as an essential service in South Africa severely affected rural children and families. To enhance accessibility, this chapter explores innovative solutions such as virtual platforms and teleservices. Balancing these opportunities are barriers like illiteracy and poor connectivity. This chapter underscores the rural landscape’s nuances and offers insights into bolstering access during crises, including COVID-19.
