Virtual Instrument Used in the Analysis of Music Complex Influence on Emotions

摘要

The experience of listening to music can and has been objectified by research that has validated a certain probability of objectivity of the influence of music, of a musical sample, on human physiology and psyche. This opens the possibility of thinking a multifold understanding of music and its effects, with direct application in the therapeutic approach and in the emerging choices and customs in the new paradigm of reporting to external stimuli. Starting from recent research on the emotional reaction this work is constituted as a pilot study, which set out to identify correlations between two audio characteristics and a certain emotion evoked upon hearing it, as well as on certain medical parameters, representative for certain conditions. A Virtual Instrument to provide the carried energy in three frequency bands and the peak values of the frequency groups were considered and correlated with the emotions indicated by the patient. The results obtained, considered preliminary for this type of approach, show that there are undeniable positive or negative correlations between the energy carried by certain frequency bands, respectively the frequency peaks and the emotions identified, as the average of the values subjectively assigned by the sample of respondents.
