Low-Cost Tester for Electrical Safety of the Medical Devices

The paper aims to make an important contribution to the development of safety in the use of medical devices, wanting an improvement and determination of staff in medical institutions, to understand the role of periodic inspections correctly performed on all medical devices. The use of electronic medical devices in diagnosis and treatment raises several important issues for both the safety of the patient and the medical staff. Therefore, it is necessary for all those who design, build or use electronic medical devices to be aware of the effects of electric currents on the body and to take all measures to exclude any risk in the use of these devices in medical activity. As a general definition of an electrical safety tester, this is a robust, portable, easy-to-use analyzer designed to test electrical safety in medical devices. This paper has presented the stages of the process of making such a tester. This electrical safety tester presents the most important parameters of a medical device, such as voltage measured in V, current measured in mA, and as well as current and ground current measurements. The device was built at the Transilvania University of Brasov with the help of CJAM Brasov.
