Nature of Cognition: An Involuted Model of Sensory Perceptions

摘要

In Chap. 3, a relationship between the brain and the mind was outlined. In continuation with this rationale, this chapter would describe the formal representation of sensory perceptions. The most intractable problem of formally representing cognitive processes responsible for sensory perceptions is that the outcomes of these cognitive processes differ vastly from one another even though the nature of the signal processing and its transduction along the axons and across the synaptic junctions is almost indistinguishable. The topological model proposed in the preceding monographs and in the preceding chapters offers a cogent manner to distinguish between different types of cognitions arising from almost identical signal processing. This is achieved by employing the extra dimensionalities available in the proposed higher dimensional manifold model of cognitive processes. This chapter describes a template for connecting neuronal architecture with sensory perceptions. The proposed model explains how processing of different sensory stimuli using almost identical signals results in different sensory perceptions. The proposed model provides an architecture of sensorium. The proposed model offers new insights into the evolutionary perspective of sensory perceptions.
