Development of Determining a Wireless Client Location Method in the IEEE 802.11 Network to Ensure the IT Infrastructure Security

Wi-Fi networks are a popular way to organize communication, providing customers with high mobility and a wide choice of connected devices. With the spread and expansion of wireless networks, as well as with the increase in the value of the transmitted information, cases of cyber attacks on these networks are becoming more frequent. Data transmission is carried out via a radio channel, which eliminates the possibility of determining the location of an intruder based on the physical wired interface they are connected with. There is a need to apply special methods for determining the intruder location for the subsequent transfer of this information to the information security department. The chapter presents a technique for determining the location of an IEEE 802.11 wireless client. The technique uses frames captured in the wireless network. These frames are intercepted by passive scanning devices in the form of microcomputers in order to ensure information security.
