Big Data Analytics for Secure Edge-Based Manufacturing Internet of Things (MIoT)

There is increasing demand for Internet of Things (IoT) devices in many aspects of life such as healthcare, transportation, agriculture, and industry generating huge amounts of data. On the other hand, big data analysis plays an important role in today’s emerging world. The manufacturing of IoT plays a significant role in the manufacturing industry and similar to any other field, big amounts of data are generated in the manufacturing process that involves various IoT devices. This data provides meaningful information if collected and analyzed. Moreover, the IoT is enabled by edge and cloud computing environments to provide real-time tasks and decisions based on data analysis. In this chapter, we summarize how big data analytics plays a significant role in manufacturing Internet of Things (MIoT). Also, we address the benefits, challenges, and security concerns associated with using the edge/cloud computing to enhance the utilization and performance of IoT in manufacturing.
