Safe Prescribing and Drug Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

This chapter focuses on the special challenges related to pharmacovigilance and drug safety for pregnant and breastfeeding women. It takes the reader through the principles of drug safety and pharmacotherapy among pregnant and breastfeeding women and presents examples relevant for clinical practice. It also addresses how evidence on drug safety specific to pregnant and breastfeeding women is generated and how drug safety in these populations is surveyed (i.e., perinatal pharmacovigilance).
