Agromet Services for Sustainable Cropping Systems

An agrometeorological (agromet) service is when the experts are able to routinely provide useful information about the weather and climate to agricultural users so that they are able to maintain productive and sustainable agricultural farming systems. An agromet service is more than a normal weather service: it provides added value to the pure meteorological information provided by weather services or bulletins. Agromet services provide the basic weather or climate information, but adds practical information about operational interventions for a particular scenario based on scientific knowledge and information. Such agromet services need to be provided on a regular basis and need to provide specific information that is relevant to the local farming systems at that specific time of the year or season.
