A Detailed Investigation of Property Damage by Landslide Disaster at NH-5, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India

Landslides in a hilly region during the monsoon and rainy season are very frequent problems due to heavy rainfall or human intervention. This study involves stability of slope assessment along a part of Shamlech Bypass Highway (NH-5) in Solan District, Himachal Pradesh which collapsed on 11th August 2022. Distance of affected site is 5.7 km from Solan, 950 m from Shamlech and 60 km from Chandigarh. This research focused on slope stability assessment based on geological and geotechnical inputs. Different tests were conducted like water content, sieve analysis, specific gravity and direct shear test. This study will be helpful for the engineers who work in Shamlech region to find out the major landslide and considering precautionary measures during the construction of man-made flyover.
