Current Trends in Extraction, Purification, and Refining of Oils from Various Biological Sources Using a Biochemical Method

摘要

Extraction of oils is vast and well-built sector which is based on the organic solvent extraction. Various solvents such as hexane, toluene, DCM (dichloromethane), ethyl acetate, and petroleum ether can be used for the exaction of different types of oils. Usually, a bulk of oil can be generated from the oilseeds, and it contains by-product which are rich source of proteins, minerals, fibers, and other secondary metabolites. Oils and fats as secondary metabolite have attracted considerable attention in diverse field of biochemical research. The secondary metabolites have great importance in the various field of biochemical research. This chapter covers the current scenario of bio-macro-composition of different oilseeds, particularly olive oil, soybean, flaxseed, sunflower, and rapeseed. The refining process consists of extracting oil and the process of valorizing and separating important secondary compounds. Phenolic compounds and the removal of nutritional components like glucosinolates that preserve the protein found in oilseed meals are the most frequently used secondary metabolites. This is also an indicator of an alternative solvent extraction method. Specific unorthodox processes are employed to extract edible oils. Solvent extraction has played a significant function in the removal of secondary metabolites as well as other nutritional factors that may cause harm. The bioactive secondary metabolite, like fossilized oil and raw materials, can be utilized as an ingredient in commercially driven products that are innovative in various industries, such as cosmetics as well as food and pharmaceuticals, and many others.
