IBM is not a company born in the twenty-first century like so many start-ups in the industry. It was born almost 150 years ago and as its first objective it had the production of tabulating machines, which were the distant ancestors of our computers and which functioned by inserting punched cards that were the device on which information was stored. The first name of this company was Computing Tabulating Recording (CTR), and only in 1924, when Thomas Watson was managing director, did it change its name to International Business Machine (IBM).
