A Puppet Without Strings? Two Considerations on AI and Its Ethics

One of the best-known stories, and not only in children’s literature, is that of the adventures of Pinocchio, the character Carlo Collodi gives birth to in an absolutely analogical world in which the ancestral desire to create an automaton with human features is realised in the form of a wooden puppet—not human, therefore—but very much affected by the faults, all human and all too human, which can perhaps be summed up in ‘doing the wrong thing’.
