Modification of the Historical Development of Madura Bridal Kebaya Clothing with Reversible Technique

摘要

Marriage customs for the Madurese community are important events and contain cultural values, which are reflected in their wedding attire. The object of study of this research is specifically the bride’s kebaya dress in Sumenep-Madura. There are three processions in the traditional wedding ceremony in Madura, namely: (1) traditional Legha, (2) Kapoetren, and (3) Lilin make-up dress. This phenomenon is due to the fact that the wedding dress from time to time has developed from year to year with aspects of the form considered ancient. Changes in the form of bridal clothing are influenced by social factors of the community and the influence of trend fashion, textile industry as well as change from generation to generation. The social influence is marked by the expansion of the Madurese community living outside the region, as well as the presence of the digital era, while the influence of the industrial sector is marked by more varied tools and materials to make Madurese traditional wedding dresses undergo many changes. This study aims to preserve traditional wedding attire to become more contemporary that is sustainable, practical when wearing, and has multiple functions. This study aims to find a form of modern bridal kebaya fashion development, with 3 models of fashion forms, the solution is packaged in the form of clothing that can be mixed and matched with reversible techniques that can be removed and attached to the panel on the decoration, as a wedding dress worn on three events at the same time according to the traditional procession in Madura. Data analysis was qualitatively and accompanied by an image design table. The results of the study found elements of modified bride’s clothing design, consisting of aspects of form, texture, color, decoration, practical use, and multi-function.
