Prevention and Treatment of Suffering Through Mindfulness

  • Tan Seng Beng

摘要

This chapter delves into the realm of preventing and treating psychoexistential suffering within the context of palliative care, taking into account the intricate interplay between suffering and holistic well-being among patients, family caregivers, and healthcare providers. It introduces The Fractals of Quality of Life framework, underscoring the significance of integrating mindfulness practices in two distinct phases to effectively address suffering. The initial phase entails the cultivation of mindfulness during patient care, while the subsequent phase centres on guiding individuals through concise mindfulness exercises. By acknowledging the profound interconnectedness of suffering and well-being, and by incorporating mindfulness into practice, healthcare providers can actively engage in the prevention and treatment of suffering and the promotion of overall well-being, thereby fostering a comprehensive and holistic approach to palliative care.
