Compassion in Palliative Care

  • Małgorzata Fopka-Kowalczyk

摘要

Compassion for others is an essential attitude for healthcare professionals, especially in palliative care. It provides a huge number of benefits for patients and their loved ones. Although compassion for others among professionals could lead to increased compassion fatigue, emotional cost, and burnout, it is worth being compassionate for patients because of the benefits. Research shows that compassionate care increases the well-being of patients, reduces anxiety and depression, and helps during the treatment process. This chapter will demonstrate what compassion is, how we can be more compassionate in practice in palliative care, and how professionals can prevent compassion fatigue.
