Diversity of Endomycorrhizal Fungi in the Rhizosphere of Fig Trees in the Region of Ifrane (Middle Atlas Region of Northern Morocco)

The diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in the rhizosphere of Fig trees in the commune of Tizguite, Ifrane region (middle atlas region of northern Morocco) was presented in this study. Soil analysis revealed the presence of a diversified endomycorrhizal fungal community. The density of spores at the studied sites varied from 61 to 100 spores /100 g of soil. AMF community was composed of 13 morphotypes of spores scattered over 7 genera (Glomus, Acaulospora, Rhizophagus, Funneliformis, Claroideoglomus, Gigaspora and Densicitata), representing 3 families (Glomaceae, Gigasporaceae and Acaulosporaceae) and 2 orders (Glomerales and Gigasporales). The species of Glomus deserticola and G. macrocarpum are the most predominant in all the study sites. This richness of endomycorrhizal fungi could be exploited in nurseries for the production of mycorrhizal fig seedlings. This diversity of AMF allowed a symbiosis with fig trees, who allowed the resistance of these species and their growth in this region.
