Rapid Synergy Realisation in Post-Merger Integration Through Targeted Transition Architectures

This paper explores the application of enterprise architecture (EA) in post-merger integration (PMI) to swiftly realise synergy effects. We propose a model for Synergy Realising Transition Architectures, which emphasises the role of EA in PMI, particularly in the efficient realisation of synergies. Our research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review, model development, and an in-depth analysis of the synergies arising from EA and PMI. The developed model helps structure the PMI plan effectively, utilising EA tools to identify minimally plannable subsets and establish synergy bundles. We provide an approach for assessing the potential gains of early synergy realisation using transition architectures. Future work will focus on refining the proposed model and examining its applicability across different merger scenarios and digital transformation challenges. Additionally, quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the model outcomes will be examined. Ultimately, this study underscores EA's pivotal role in PMI and the strategic significance of swiftly and efficiently realising synergies.
