Quantum Financial Technology

In this chapter, we provide an overview of quantum financial technology that is intended for economists. We start with a description of quantum money schemes, a summary of the progress in the experimental implementation of quantum money, and a discussion of the potential future relevance for economists and central banks. This will primarily focus on theory, since quantum money is not yet implementable with existing technology. We will then discuss two near-term strategies for securing the financial system and payments technology from quantum attacks: post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution.
