Build an Urban Erosion Model

This lab is about soil degradation and erosion processes in urban areas. Soil erosion is the natural process by which soil is moved from one place to another, but urbanization can accelerate this process. The lab involves building an erosion model using plastic bottles, soil, mulch, and grass seed or sod. The bottles are suspended at an angle, and water is applied using a rain simulator or watering can to simulate rainfall. The lab teaches about the importance of conserving soil on the surface and the impact of sediment transported due to erosion on plants, fish, and insects and provides suggestions on how to mitigate erosion processes in urban areas.
