From Land and Sea
摘要
Marine and terrestrial ecosystems exhibit distinct characteristics, influencing the features of their inhabitants. The physical environment, three-dimensional water column distribution, and unique survival challenges set marine life apart. Phytoplankton-driven intricate food webs, species succession, and circadian migrations contribute to the rich complexity of marine organisms and ecosystems. The contrast between seasonal succession in marine ecosystems and the more static nature of terrestrial ecosystems, influenced by ocean currents and temperature dynamics, adds to the diversity. Additionally, the day–night cycle and circadian migrations in the sea highlight further distinctions. Despite some similarities, marine and terrestrial ecosystems differ fundamentally, resulting in a wide array of unique organisms.
