Ferns and Fern-Allies of Nepal

  • Maan Bahadur Rokaya

摘要

Nepal is rich in ferns and fern-allies, known as pteridophytes, and the diversity decreases with increasing altitude. The study of pteridophytes dates back to 1801–02, when Francis Buchannan-Hamilton initiated the discipline. Although pteridophytes are not economically important in Nepal, they can be used for food, medicine, ornamental plants, biofertilizers, and phytoremediation of soil or water. This chapter discusses the various facets of pteridophytes in Nepal, including distribution overview, exploration, relevant literature, identification characteristics, economic significance, and their conservation status.
