From Postdoc to Communications Director: Exploring Science Communications

When I left the lab in 2006, I didn’t know about the career paths available to science PhDs. I learned about science communications opportunities through on-the-job training and with the help of smart colleagues. In this chapter, I walk through the path from postdoc to communications director and share what I learned along the way about different science communications subdomains. I also offer insight into what I now look for in job applicants, whether they’re seasoned communicators or fresh out of the lab.
