Leaving the Lab, Staying in Academia: University Research Administration

My career path did not take me away from academia; it just took me out of the lab. I have always been interested in science and in scientific discovery. After I received my PhD and started a postdoc, I decided that I did not want to pursue the faculty track. That was not the life I wanted. So, I moved into academic administration, continuing to work in research. I am now Associate Provost for Research at Yale University. This chapter describes my career path and provides information on types of administration jobs as well as how to go about getting them.
