A Biologist’s Path to a Career in Finance

I work at the interface of science, biotechnology, and finance. I am the director of research at LifeSci Capital, an investment bank that focuses only on the life sciences. After I graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in biology, I went to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Postbaccalaureate Fellow and spent 2 years doing research in yeast genetics. Graduate school was the natural next step. So that’s what I did. I moved to Princeton University and completed my PhD in molecular biology. It was at Princeton that I decided to redirect my career path from what was considered to be the “normal” academic track. This chapter describes my journey to my current job in biotech finance.
