Endometriosis-Related Complications in Women Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization

The potential danger of endometriosis worsening because of in vitro fertilization (IVF) therapy is a possible but underappreciated worry. As an estrogen-related disorder, the frequency of ovulation plays a key role in the development of ovarian endometriomas. The possibility that IVF accelerates the development of the illness has not yet been ruled out or even proved. Endometriotic lesions may become inflamed as a result of elevated estrogen levels associated with IVF, which is thought to cause serious consequences such as bowel blockage in individuals with intestinal lesions. The risk of infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, and pelvic or tubo-ovarian abscess have also been connected to IVF operations, including oocyte retrieval. When compared to women without endometriosis, these problems are often more severe and persistent in women with endometriosis. The possible endometriosis-related side effects and the controversies of IVF with endometrioma or endometriosis will be discussed in this chapter, along with advice on how to advise patients with high complications risk.
