The New Special Collserola Range Protection Plan [PEPNat]: A Natural Park Within the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona

The Collserola mountain range is a singular natural area covering over 8000 ha at the heart of a complex metropolitan reality. It thus has great potential in terms of providing ecosystem services on a metropolitan and regional level, yet little ecological continuity with other nearby open spaces. As a result of the creation of Collserola Natural Park in 2010, a new special protection plan, the PEPNat, has been formally approved (April 2021). This Plan aims to preserve biodiversity and increase ecosystem services under dynamic and adaptive management. The presentation focuses on the holistic and comprehensive approach of the new plan in the frame of the metropolitan green infrastructure.
