As per the data published by World Bank in 2018, upper-middle- and high-income nations provide near complete waste collectionWaste collection, low-income countries collect around 48% of wasteWaste in cities, and 26% outside urban areas. Sub-Saharan Africa collects around 44% of waste while Europe, Central Asia, and North America collect at least 90% of wasteWaste. Municipalities in Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa have an average collectionCollection rate of less than 60%. In Latin American, Asian, and the Caribbean cities, the collectionCollection rates range from 70 to 85%. As countries develop, their SWM situations also evolve. SWM is expensive. In low-income nations, it comprises of about 20% of municipal budgetsBudget, more than 10% in middle-income nations and around 4% in high-income nations.
