Introduction: The Empty Nest in Poland and in France

The first chapter introduces the context of studying the phenomenon of an “empty nest”. It underlines the fact that sociological studies are less common than psychological ones. As a book Introduction, it presents the project overview with characteristics of respondents and the main research questions to be answered. It also sheds light on the socio-demographic context of leaving the nest in France and Poland and analyses the differences between the two societies in this regard. The second part of the chapter is devoted to an overview of the volume and its summary.
