摘要

There is an increasing interest in the interface between religion and development in Africa. In particular, scholars have expended considerable energy in reviewing the role of faith-based organisations (FBOs), often regarded as the service arm of religions, in promoting development in Africa. This chapter contributes to the reflections on FBOs and development by addressing a somewhat neglected theme, namely, FBOs and food security and sovereignty in Africa. It deploys documentary review to appreciate the interface between selected FBOs and food security in Africa. The chapter highlights the strengths of FBOs in responding to the food crisis/insecurity in Africa. The chapter also summarizes the activities of these FBOs in promoting food security in Africa. It critiques the interventions by FBOs and concludes by underscoring the centrality of food security and sovereignty to sustainable development in Africa.
