Platelet Lysate

Growth factors contained in platelets play an important role in numerous physiologic processes throughout the body. Through a variety of physical and chemical processes, the proteins and growth factors contained in platelet α-granules can be separated from the platelets themselves, resulting in the creation of platelet lysate or platelet releasate (PR). This chapter will review the history of and rationale for the use of platelet lysate; review methods for producing platelet lysate; and discuss current and potential future clinical use of platelet lysate based upon information found in peer-reviewed medical journals.
