Application of Artificial Intelligence in the Oil and Gas Industry

摘要

The oil and gas industry substantially influences global energy production due to its complexity and faces different challenges. In various industries, including the oil and gas sector, Artificial Intelligence has recently developed as a potent technology due to its numerous benefits. In this chapter, Authors focus on overall application of AI in Oil and Gas and provide a comprehensive overview of how AI can help the petroleum sector to promote safety culture, reduce repair and maintenance costs, increase production, enhance asset performance through various uses in exploration, transportation, and refining activities. This work also examines AI applications in midstream operations, including pipeline integrity management (PIM), and transportation and logistics optimization. It focuses on AI applications for refinery optimization, predictive maintenance for refining processes, and quality control in downstream operations. Authors further explore AI's safety and environmental applications, discussing AI-powered risk assessment and safety monitoring, environmental impact analysis and mitigation, and real-time incident detection and response systems. Lastly, this chapter discusses future trends and outlook, discussing emerging technologies of AI in the energy sector and analyzing its potential impact on oil and gas's future. It identifies opportunities for further research and development and highlights the significance of AI in transforming the energy sector, driving innovation, and improving efficiency. Overall, this chapter analyzes the importance and impact of AI in the petroleum sector, offering valuable insights into how this transformative technology can revolutionize the sector and address its unique challenges.
