Economics in Cambridge, UK, after Keynes

The chapter deals with the economics in Cambridge, UK, the most important center of non-mainstream economics in the few decades after the war. Firstly, the Post Keynesian contributions by Joan Robinson—her The Accumulation of Capital—and Nicholas Kaldor on growth and distribution are examined. Secondly, Piero Sraffa’s works—his edition of the works and correspondence of David Ricardo and Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities, the theoretical contribution to the revival of classical political economy from an anti-neoclassical and neo-Ricardian perspective—are analyzed. Thirdly, the role of the Department of Applied Economics, under the directorship of Richard Stone and then of Brian Reddaway is considered.
