Exploring the Use of ChatGPT as a Tool for Developing Eportfolios in ESL Classrooms

This book chapter explores the potential of ChatGPT as a tool for developing eportfolios in the ESL classroom. Eportfolios have emerged as a valuable tool for language learners to showcase their language proficiency, learning progress, and personal achievements. However, developing an eportfolio can be challenging for learners, especially when writing and organizing their reflections and artefacts. ChatGPT, a language model based on artificial intelligence, can facilitate the development of eportfolios by providing learners with automated feedback and prompts that can guide them in their writing and reflection process. This chapter will review the literature on eportfolios and language learning, examine the features and capabilities of ChatGPT, and discuss some practical strategies for integrating ChatGPT into the eportfolio development process. The chapter will also highlight some benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT for eportfolio development and suggest some directions for future research.
