Multiple Trauma Management: Treatment of Abdominal Injury in Combination with Trauma Brain Injury

Patients with combined head and abdominal trauma present unique challenges to the trauma team, namely in how to prioritize injuries, determine appropriate treatment, and mitigate secondary injury. In this chapter, we discuss the epidemiology, classification, pathophysiology, and management of these injuries and lay out our approach to these complex trauma patients based on a review of the literature and our own experience.
