Physical Properties of Liquid Crystals: I. Scalar and Anisotropic Properties
摘要
The orientational, positional and conformational orders existing in liquid crystals destroy the isotropy and introduce anisotropy in the system. The orientational order is always present in each type of liquid crystals, but other two orders may or may not exist. Secondly, the mesogenic molecules are anisotropic in shape. These two characteristic features are responsible for the anisotropic optical, dielectric and electro-optical, spectroscopic, elastic, magnetic, electrical and other properties of liquid crystalline materials. In the present chapter 2 the liquid crystal material parameters and some of the important properties have been discussed.
