Introduction: Why a Book on Ministerial Leadership?

Fifty years ago the working lives of government ministers were more of a mystery than they are now. Since then we have come to know a lot more about their daily working life, and the interactions they have with civil servants, Cabinet colleagues, the centre of government including the prime minister, the Treasury and Cabinet Office, parliament, their stakeholders, and the wider public.
