Synthesis of Outcomes Regarding Integration of UAS into Civil Aviation in the US, South Africa and Kenya

  • Manana Wanyonyi Rodgers

摘要

As a secondary lens, this Chapter examines the applicable structures from the perspective of International Aviation Law (IAL) and its adoption to domestic, legal, policy and institutional frameworks. It analyses the development of the current legal responses to deal with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) associated challenges of safety, security and privacy rights assurances in the United States of America, South Africa and Kenya. It is explicitly established that the US has had a longer history of interaction with UAS. For this reason, a discussion is aptly made regarding the two African States’ development of UAS regulation against lessons from the US. The Chapter closes with analysis of the notable safety, security and privacy challenges experienced by the three States.
