Toward a Sustainable Building Envelope Deals with Climate Change

Climate change has become a reality that severely affects many countries and has made buildings vulnerable to this phenomenon in the exposure to severe changes in temperature and wind directions, which in turn affects the occupants of the building. That called for the architectural orientation to protect the building by dealing with the building's outer casing, and this is what the study adopts in terms of using reprocessed materials to make an external casing that protects the original casing of the building and deals with the surrounding climate of the building. The study relied on designing and forming an outer envelope consisting of insulating materials supported by flexible nanotechnology. They are easy to form, treated, and sustainable paint materials. Furthermore, the study relied on specialized programs to choose the best locations for these formations on the relevant envelopes so that the selected building gains the ability to deal with the changes surrounding the building to provide appropriate thermal comfort for the interior spaces of the building. A multi-story residential building was chosen in a hot, dry climate and dealing with the envelops most exposed to the sun to create an envelope that protects the building from external factors, especially intense sunlight, high heat, wind, and unpleasant dust, in addition to protection from harmful and polluting heat emissions to make the building more suitable for its users. Internationally, approved design and simulation software techniques were used (Rhino, Grasshopper, climate studio). To reach the best formation and calculate the proposed envelope's effectiveness to act as a protective factor for the building, as it interacts with the external changes of the building and limits its impact on the internal environment. To provide an external envelope of innovative sustainable materials with a high degree of flexibility in design and formation in order to deal with the surrounding environment and create a comfort zone for building occupants.
