AMO: Anterior Maxillary Downfracture Techniques (Cupar 1954, Bell 1971, 1977 and Epker 1977)

The AMO techniques described in this chapter have a common denominator, the surgical approach from anteriorly through a vestibular circular incision in the anterior region of the maxillary vestibule. The vestibular vomeronasal osteotomy from the craniopalatal side of the maxilla allows an additional osteotomy at the vomer base, which can be applied for the correction of a deep bite. This results in an excellent overview, and segment perfusion occurs via the palatal pedicle (palatine arteries). These techniques were precursors to the complete maxillary osteotomy, the Le Fort I osteotomy.
