Biohydrogen Downstream Processing and Storage Systems

摘要

Biohydrogen is a clean and renewable source of energy, which has the potential to replace the conventional fossil fuels. However, purification and storage of biohydrogen are some important factors which need to be addressed for its application in energy sector. Biohydrogen produced using any biobased method consists of other gaseous byproducts, particularly carbon dioxide. Absorption, adsorption, permeation through membrane, and other methods are, therefore, widely used to obtain biohydrogen in pure form. Reliable storage systems for storing biohydrogen in the form of compressed hydrogen gas, liquid hydrogen, and solid or material-based systems are essential for energy supply, transportation, and other applications. Different and advanced purification and storage technologies with respect to biohydrogen are discussed in this chapter. Recent developments, including integrating biohydrogen production and purification, are also presented.
