摘要

Replacing the goods procured from fossil matter with other products gained over renewable resources has become a global concern in the current scenario. A major shift to bio-based elements appears vital to evade the predominant negative impacts instigated by various chemical elements on the surrounding. In this regard, with special inference on overcoming the supply limitations, the recent research considers the production of various volatile fatty acids (VFAs) including the Acetic, lactic, butyric and propionic acids with special reference to biohydrogen production. In this regard, here the authors have discussed the methods and effluents of bio-hydrogen production processes in context with the various volatile fatty acids and the key approaches usually employed for VFA recovery. The key inferences obtained in this investigation also validated that the value-added applications of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) in various fields directed the researchers to produce butyric acids, acetic acids, lactic acids and propionic acids from effluents with the aid of the major advanced approaches such as gas stripping with absorption, reverse osmosis, solvent extraction, adsorption, nanofiltration, membrane contractors and electrodialysis.
