摘要

Biofuels such as biodiesel and bioethanol have been considered good alternatives to fossil fuels in transportation. The main advantage of biofuels is their environment-friendly status, as they are obtained from renewable sources and are less polluting fuels. Among the types of biofuels, gaseous biofuels have also been attracting attention. Biohythane is a blend of biomethane and biohydrogen with the potential to substitute natural gas and hythane from fossil sources. Biohythane is produced via the anaerobic digestion of wastewaters and various organic solid wastes. Thus, being a biotechnological process that involves several microorganisms and substrates, the operating conditions of the process and reactor configuration must be adequate, aiming for the best yields of biogas production. In general, the costs related to anaerobic digestion processes are attractive and arouse research and the development of technologies to produce biohythane.
