Digital Twin Proposal for Automated Processes in Shipbuilding: An Implementation Strategy

Modeling and simulation (M&S) plays a pivotal role in Industry 4.0, offering detailed insights into systems and visualizing their behavior in various scenarios. The initial steps towards developing a digital twin, a highly valuable asset for industries like shipbuilding, involve creating an accurate digital model and identifying the relevant information about the studied process. In this article, we explore the fundamentals of modeling and simulation and highlight its significant advancements in naval engineering. We showcase suitable processes for leveraging this technology and subsequently propose an implementation strategy for a digital twin. Finally, we present conclusions regarding the utility of this tool and outline the potential benefits it can bring.
